    4890 cooler?

    Hey guys,

Im in need of a new cooler for my HD4890 graphics card,I think one of the ball barings has gone in my fan and it makes a noise...and sits 60c idle...so what do you guys recommend?

I heard something about VRM cooling been a problem when you switch to an aftermarket cooler on the 4890s? If that true?

    This for the cooler:

Arctic Cooling Accelero S1 Rev 2 VGA Cooler Noiseless Cooling 4 Heat Pipes- microdirect.co.uk

And yes, you have to apply heatsinks to the VRMS - particularly if you plan to overclock it.

    The fact that it's passive?

If you get the fans, or even tie your own 120mm to it, it's fine. It was considered one of, if not the best air cooler for the 4850/4870 (with fans) and since the 4890 is basically a 4870 it should be fine. I wouldn't use it passive.

The only real thing to watch out for is if the 4890 is a non-reference design - some of the later cards had oddly placed memchips and VRMS

My nVidia 9400GT gets around 95C when im playing. Its passive "cooled" (Its not really cooled, is it now?).
It has been like that since i bought it, so i dont think you need to bother about a cooler
