HELP: I lose signal to monitor...

Hi I am new here and I need help. I lose signal to my monitor if I turn it off the back on and after exiting a game like Portal. The screen just goes black as if it were turned off. Then I go and restart the computer right away and all is fine untill after the "Windows Starting" screen then theres just nothing, so I turn off my computer leave it for a while and boot it up again and it works fine. But if I turn off the monitor then back on or exit a game or unplug and replug the VGA cable theres nothing. So I thought it was a Ram problem so I when and got new ram still no help(I was upgrading ram for 1GB to 4GB anyway so thats no waste of money) Then I uninstalled and reinstalled my ATI drivers and still nothing. I also setup my computer on my HDTV using the VGA cable i use with my monitor to see if was the cable or monitor and there was no problems. So I have now narrowed it down to the GPU and its Drivers or the monitor. I have had the monitor for about 5 years(Its a LCD flat panel). I also did a virus and malware scan to see if was I had an infection causing this problem but the scans were clean. I am going to test the monitor by pluging it into my brothers laptop and see whats happens.

I think this points to the monitor being broken. You should definetly plug it into a 2nd computer and try that.

For the behalf of the SevenForums community, apologies for the late response

Well, do what I did... My LG 2361WV, less than a year old, started randomly turning off while I was on it. Turned out to be a bad power supply and a few other things. Since I bought it from Best Buy, I had them warranty replace/fix it and got another monitor. I have the LG back, but have it stashed away for emergencies. You should probably do the same for yourself if the monitor isn't too old.
