Update: Started my laptop this morning and not only was my resolution messed up, but it changed my desktop picture too. As soon as I disabled the phantom monitor all went back to normal, but I fear this will happen again. Edit: Whenever I hit detect displays in the CCC it gets rid of it.

Properties info: It is an exact copy of my monitor for my laptop ( Generic PNP )

    Device type: Monitors
Manufacturer: ( standard monitor types )
Location: On ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5800 Series

    Generic Non-PnP Monitor
    Driver provider: Microsoft
Driver Date: 6/21/2006 ( I tried updating, no success )
    Driver version: 6.1.7600.16385
    Digital Signer: Microsoft Windows

    Thanks again guys.

    Hi

In CCC, could you try disabling Catalyst A.I?
Open CCC > Graphics > 3D> Tick (or check) Disable Catalyst A.I.

    Regards

What does this do?? Will I see any differences with it off?

I often find that when a computer thinks it has more than one monitor, it is because of a conflict in drivers. Have you tried completely removing all video drivers?

My problem was that I had a bad installation of a second set of drivers I didn't even know about. When I wiped them all, and then installed the fresh drivers, my problem was solved.

Also, welcome to the boards! I hope this gets resolved and you can use the forum for idea's instead of just troubleshooting, it really is a great place!

Let's see if getting rid of the phantom/false monitor in Device Manager fixes it. Start with setting Device Manager to show hidden devices,

    Device Manager : Hidden Devices

Then when you get to step #3 click on Monitors and uninstall any that are grayed out. Hopefully that will get Windows to stop "seeing" the phantom monitor.

It did not show up as a hidden device. As soon as I hit detect monitors i vanishes not only from CCC, But from device manager as well. Thanks for trying
