Nvidia GTX 470 Max Temp

I just bought 1 of these a couple days ago for my gaming rig and noticed today when playing dirt 2 on dx11 all on mx setting on 1920x1080 my GPU went to 90C and i didnt hear any noise letting me know that the fan was kicking in is this safe or not as i thought it was bad to get to this temp?

Use something like EVGA Precision or MSI Afterburner and set the fan speed to be 60-70% and your temps will be fine.

I would say that 90C is fairly high, and you should check you fan settings. I doubt it will destroy your card though.

Yup.

Those GF100s can get real hot, real fast. Anything around ~100 Celsius is completely normal though.

Just like Everlong said, download EVGA Precision or MSI Afterburner and crank up that Fan Speed.

I regualy put fa non 80% wen doing long gaming periodes now just to make sure its cool and it stays about 75-80C on this fan temp but noise is well loud lol but you have to compromise on these thing i suppose.

You can also replace the TIM on the heatsink to drop temps even more. (EVGA allows this, but might void warranty on others).
I'm running dual/SLI EVGA gtx 470s, to give you an idea how much it could drop temps:

Original card with TIM replaced at idle: 38c
New additional card with original TIM at idle: 49c (will replace TIM soon)

Like the others have said, running fans at 70/75 while gaming, my temps never go above 66c.

Case flow has more to do with the GPU temp than you might think. If your going to crank up the fan on the GPU don't forget to turn up your case fans also because replacing the hot air in the case with cooler ambient temp air makes the biggest difference of all.

The fan profiles of these modern GPU's are much better than in the past, mine ramps up perfectly as the temp goes up with no need to adjust the fan speed but adding more case flow makes all the difference.
