Windows 7 - NVIDIA GeForce 4 MX 440

09-27-2010   #1

Windows 7. 32 bit.

NVIDIA GeForce 4 MX 440

AAGP 8x graphics card with 64MB DDR memory and TV-out.

QUESTION:

How do I upgrade this to the latest driverÉ (sorry, but the question mark, for some reason, shows up as an É)

I went over to the nvidia website to no avail. Please help.

paula89, welcome to the Seven Forums.

To answer your question, quite simply you don't. There is not now and never will be a Windows 7 driver for that card, as Nvidia dropped support for it a long time ago. The best you can do is the last XP driver,

ForceWare Windows XP/2000 32-bit

Probably have to use compatibility mode,

Compatibility Mode

to get it to install. It the rest of the computer is of similar vintage as the video card, there is also a good possibility that the video driver won't install due to the lack of a working AGP/GART driver.

Thanks, Stormy13!

Something is still not working and the messages I'm getting don't make sense to me. Like for example, after I clicked on the second link, it told me that the operating system I'm using (I guess that's what it meant) isn't a Windows system... But I am using Windows!

I just want to play a game called Enemy Territory but I can't play it because of this: "GLW_StartOpenGL() - could not load OpenGL subsystem".

So what should I do? How do I fix this problem? Thanks a bunch!

Hi Paula89!

Ouch, that's an old card you have! Yeah, I think the best option is the Forceware driver that was mentioned earlier. But to be honest, you're much better off buying a newer card. For Windows 7, if you plan to use Aero, then be sure the card you buy has at least 128mb of memory.

I keep getting this message...........

"NVIDIA setup error:

Setup detected that the operating system in use is not Windows. This setup program and its associated driversare designed to run only on windows. The installation will be terminated."

And the game (Enemy Territory) still doesn't work........

"GLW_StartOpenGL() - could not load OpenGL subsystem"

Please help. I'm no computer expert.
