Windows 7 - Ati hd 4870

I just got this card and I've noticed that there are some red led lights that light up on initial startup and then go off. I done some googling as to what they are but can only find out what they mean if they are on all the time. Some sort of warning. What I would like to know is how many are on there and what does each one mean?

If it is anything like the one on my 4830, it is an indicator for whether the external power is connected or not. Didn't even realize mine had one until the last time I was dust cleaning and forgot to reconnect the power cable to the card.

HD4870 LEDs

D1601 - Red LED On, shows critical temperature fault

D1602 - Red LED On, shows External power connector A was removed

D1603 - Red LED On, shows External power connector B was removed

D601 - Red LED On, shows critical Core power fault


At BOOT/POST, the card's fan will spin @ 100% for a short while and 3 of the 4 LEDs will light up for a brief period and then go out ( D601 should remain unlit ). This is NORMAL behaviour as the card is performing it's own type of POST test.

So basically if the LED's flash then go out every thing is fine. It's just the graphic card performing it's POST test.

Rik55 --- Thanks for the find. I've been searching for 3 days now and couldn't find a thing. I'm just wondering why ATI/AMD site doesn't have this information for each of there cards. I couldn't even find it in the downloadable user manual/guide. I would think that's some pretty pertinent information for the consumer.
