New video card with variable speed fan

I'm currently using an Nvidia 9600 GT. This card is good enough in terms of performance, but unfortunately the model I have doesn't have a variable speed fan and is very noisy. I'd like to replace it with something a little faster - maybe a 9800 GT or something comparable - and quieter. If anyone can recommend specific cards that have variable speed fans and are quiet when not stressed I will appreciate it. TIA

Good question - I would prefer to keep the cost under $100 US

You can download Evga precision. It works on all Nvidia cards and will allow you to control your fan speed as well as the clock speeds and keep track of temp.

There is also "Nvidia System Tools" which allows you to control fan speed settings, if you prefer to stick with "Nvid". I use it with my 480 along with "Realtemp 3.60" to keep my temps under check.

    Here's the link

    NVIDIA DRIVERS 6.06

As for an upgrade, you should be able to pick up a 9800GT for around $100, not sure what ATI cards go for these days but they to should have something descent for around the same $ mark.

    cheers

Just saw this for about the same price

    ATI HD5670 1G GDDR5 HDMI DVI

A tiny bit over $100 @ $115 in Aussie dollars.

    Cheers

    Newegg.com - ASUS ENGTS250/DI/512MD3/WW GeForce GTS 250 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

I didn't want to spend more than a hundred either, but the GTS 450 series card I got was $140 with a rebate down to $120, so I decided to up my budget a little to get ahead of the curve

I tried this, but no joy. I've read that the fan speed is fixed in hardware and can't be adjusted.

Just wanted to thank everyone who replied to my question. I decided to buy a 5750 Radeon card with 1 gig GDDR5. That should perk things up and be quieter than my current card. In case anyone is interested the deal is still active at newegg.com here:
