Disabling Switchable Graphics on a DV7-4030ed First of all, thanks for reading this post. I recently bought a HP DV7-4030ed, i'm a graphic/game designer and i work a lot with different kinds of game engines, and this means that i want to have my drivers updated. I always plug in my pc, so i don't use my Intel gpu a lot. Sadly, Catalyst isn't compatible with intel switchable graphics. And i still got my warranty, so i don't want to flash my BIOS. If you know how to solve this, please reply. | My System Specs |

That's my post :P Thanks though. I thought "Lets ask it on sevenforums, helpdesk sucks" but hey, they beat you to it.
Edit: I already did that. That AND disabling the intel GPU with the device manager | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP DV7-4030ed OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 CPU Intel Core i5 M450 @ 2.40GHz Memory 4Gb Graphics Card AI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 / Intel Graphics Media Acceleratr |

Google is your friend after all.
To be honest, I thought you might be able to disable it from BIOS, but it seems that is not possible (why not?), so disabling it through power settings makes the most sense.
Just out of curiosity, why not buy a quality desktop?

So disabling that in power didn't stop the problem? What exactly is the problem then? Is it using the Intel graphics instead of ATIs?
It should auto-switch on load.

First of all, i tried the BIOS. Second, i'm a graphic design student, not much sense in putting my desktop pc in a bag and going to school, is there? And i got this one for 800 euro's, instead of 900. I thought it was a pretty good deal myself. Specs are semi-nice and i just liked it. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP DV7-4030ed OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 CPU Intel Core i5 M450 @ 2.40GHz Memory 4Gb Graphics Card AI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 / Intel Graphics Media Acceleratr |

It did autoswitch. But the catalyst control center doesn't play well with intel gpus. I'll try another approach. :P | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP DV7-4030ed OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 CPU Intel Core i5 M450 @ 2.40GHz Memory 4Gb Graphics Card AI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 / Intel Graphics Media Acceleratr |

I brought both my desktop and laptop to college with me
Anyways, disabling it in BIOS failed. You said you tried disabling it in power options as well?
You mentioned incompatible drivers from ATI, so you did try updating the drivers? What about laptop drivers for the motherboard and Intel chips?
I have class in 10 mins, so someone else will have to help you through this.

I installed drivers, just gonna reboot and post results. If all else fails, i'm gonna modify the installer to bypass some security checks. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP DV7-4030ed OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 CPU Intel Core i5 M450 @ 2.40GHz Memory 4Gb Graphics Card AI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 / Intel Graphics Media Acceleratr |
