Ati 5850 black edition Hi all,i currently have the gtx 285 black edition, and i am looking at getting the xfx 5850 black edition,it looks like a nice card and is very cheap for its performance, but would like to know from a few experts point of views about the card and other cards,i know the 5870 is faster but allsow more exspencive(i can get 2 5850's for the price of 1 5870) and allsow if Nvidias 400 series with physx is better choice? | My System Specs |

The 5850 is going to have better performance (not to mention DX11) than the 285.
The PhysX is only going to make a difference for PhysX enabled games.
I am not sure if 2 5850s will beat a 5870 in performance, but I can tell you that the advantages of having just 1 GPU outweigh the small price difference.
At least in my opinion.

bit rate is important but if you are looking for speed and increased fram rate you could just get the 5870
I can tell you i was considering the new 6800 series gpu but still will be slower then a 5870 and it is a 100,00 less at best
I can tell you right now i would lean more towards the 5870 im leaning towards it too all ati did was revamp a old card to bring it up to par thats all | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Built by me FX - Series Scorpious OS Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit sp1 CPU Vishera FX 8350 Oc' 4.812Ghz 1.488 V-core full load 50c Motherboard Asus Sabertooth 990fx rev 2.0 Memory 16gb Corsair Vengeance ram 1600mhz Oc'ed to 1750mhz Graphics Card VisionTek HD7970 Ghz.ed Bios Crossfire 1150/1560 power 10% Sound Card AC97 Monitor(s) Displays 27" ViewSonic 1920/1080dp hdmi 37in vizio hdmi dual monitors Screen Resolution 1920x1080 27"- 1920x1080 37" Keyboard Logitech wireless keyboard Mouse Logitech wireless mouse PSU HX1050w Corsair Silver 80plus certified crosfire/sli Case Thermaltake Element V Cooling Antec 620 Water cooling system and 4 120 mm LED fans Hard Drives Ocz Agility 120Gb SSD Seagate baracuda 500 Gb WD Mybook 500Gb Internet Speed Cable 25+ mb Antivirus WebRoot Spysweeper with Antivirus Browser IE-9, Chrome, Opera Other Info I have 2 systems FX AM3+ 8350-K15 Oc'ed 4.812Ghz AM2+ 965 BE Stock 3.4 Ghz Both stable Both Gaming Rigs Also Hp Notebook 1.65 ghz Dual core amd E-450 8gb Patriot Ram DDR3 Discrete Gpu Hd6320 dedicated ram 1973 mb 15.5 screen |

not alot of games use physx yet but will be more soon if you want a nvidia type vidcard equal or more the gtx 480 fermi is the ticket but im a ati guy now and it would be more suitable to just pay a little extra for the big gun
I fear the prices really wont change till the new gpu's get settled in | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Built by me FX - Series Scorpious OS Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit sp1 CPU Vishera FX 8350 Oc' 4.812Ghz 1.488 V-core full load 50c Motherboard Asus Sabertooth 990fx rev 2.0 Memory 16gb Corsair Vengeance ram 1600mhz Oc'ed to 1750mhz Graphics Card VisionTek HD7970 Ghz.ed Bios Crossfire 1150/1560 power 10% Sound Card AC97 Monitor(s) Displays 27" ViewSonic 1920/1080dp hdmi 37in vizio hdmi dual monitors Screen Resolution 1920x1080 27"- 1920x1080 37" Keyboard Logitech wireless keyboard Mouse Logitech wireless mouse PSU HX1050w Corsair Silver 80plus certified crosfire/sli Case Thermaltake Element V Cooling Antec 620 Water cooling system and 4 120 mm LED fans Hard Drives Ocz Agility 120Gb SSD Seagate baracuda 500 Gb WD Mybook 500Gb Internet Speed Cable 25+ mb Antivirus WebRoot Spysweeper with Antivirus Browser IE-9, Chrome, Opera Other Info I have 2 systems FX AM3+ 8350-K15 Oc'ed 4.812Ghz AM2+ 965 BE Stock 3.4 Ghz Both stable Both Gaming Rigs Also Hp Notebook 1.65 ghz Dual core amd E-450 8gb Patriot Ram DDR3 Discrete Gpu Hd6320 dedicated ram 1973 mb 15.5 screen |

With that said. I'd look into AMD's newly released HD 6800 series cards. The HD 6870 in particular smokes any HD 5850 in the market right now for about ~$30 less, and they scale remarkably well (surpasing NVIDIA's SLI scaling level performance).
But If I were you, I'd wait until ~mid November for Cayman (AMD's HD 6900 series cards), they are touting these cards like the next R300 (Radeon 9700 Pro, probably the best card of all time). | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Self Built OS Windows 7 Pro x64 SP1 CPU Intel Core i5-2500K Motherboard ASUS P8P67 Memory 8GB Corsair XMS3 DDR3 Graphics Card EVGA GeForce GTX 670 FTW Sound Card ASUS Xonar DS Monitor(s) Displays SAMSUNG P2070 Screen Resolution 1600 x 900 @ 60Hz Keyboard Logitech K300 Black Mouse Genius on Steelseries 4HD Gaming pad PSU Corsair TX950W Case Corsair Obsidian 650D Cooling Thermaltake Frío Hard Drives WD Caviar Blue Other Info Headphones: Sennheiser HD-515 |
