    What to do?

I have been having a lot of trouble with my second monitor, once I need to unhook my laptop I have a hell of a time getting it to work again, this time it has been 2 days and I am not any closer, so I am hoping someone can help me.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A505 8 months old, with Windows 7 64 bit, 500 mg HD, 4 mg memory, and what happens is I go into screen res and select extend these displays, but the monitor doesnt get recognized, I try to reboot hoping it will get recognized and it goes back to the default of show desktop on one monitor. I checked to see if there are updates for graphics card, apparently they are up to date.
To make matters worse I now have programs "trapped" on the other monitor and do not know how to bring them back, so basically I cannot use the laptop alone or with the second monitor.

    Thank you in advance!

    Try typing device manager
    in search
In manager look for any yellow markers indicating driver errors
Make sure that your graphics driver is up to date.

It should stay on the screen and let you read the results, if done properly
It should be logged on the.cbs log
How to analyze the log file entries that the Microsoft Windows Resource Checker (SFC.exe) program generates in Windows Vista

see if this helps: Multiple displays in Windows 7

try changing your display from extend to duplicate.
