GTX 460 + AMD 770 Chipset causing conflict?

    Heya all :)

Before I start, I've had some probs with my computer which have been resolved here: https://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-d...ck-screen.html and since then my BSOD and Monitor have been fixed (I haven't had any further issues since last update on the post!) but I'm now having problems with my 460 card which I'm hoping you can advise me on!

I'm having a lot of problems with my GTX 460 card and the drivers. When playing games (mainly LOTRO) with the latest graphics drivers my screen keeps flashing on and off, my LCD power light is remaining steady at this time but the screen will go black, then come back up, go black again, then come back up, rinse and repeat. It's very inconvenient when this happens, especially if I'm in an instance and healing! If I use earlier drivers (at the moment I'm trying 258.96) it doesn't seem to do the flashing on and off but I'm still having problems with the drivers. I've had my games crash and stop responding, freezing which requires a reset of my computer as I can't even get to ctrl+alt+del to try and cancel the game. I have searched on the internet and seen similar problems with the GTX 460 card and I also found this thread: http://forums.nvidia...howtopic=180504 which someone mentions that there is a conflict with the 460 cards and the AMD 770 chipset. I have phoned up for an RMA but because it's been more than 28 days they can only replace the card if it's tested as faulty, if it turns out that it is not faulty they said I'll be charged and the card returned to me. I'm convinced that there is nothing wrong with my 460 card but there's some conflict going on with my mobo and the card.

Is there still a conflict with the 460 card and the AMD Chipsets? Is it more likely that that's what's causing the problems? Feedback would be most welcome as over the last couple of days I've become so frustrated with the issues that I've been plagued with since getting the 460 card that I've hardly been online to play LOTRO and would like to get back to playing games peacefully without any problems!!!

Oh before I forget, I had the GTX 460 in a different system that didn't have AMD chipset and I had no problems with it whatsoever, which leads me to believe that there is nothing wrong with the card at all!!

    Many thanks :)

You may want to update your bios, if you haven't done so already.

    GIGABYTE - Support & Downloads - Downloads

Let us know if that helps!

Before I update my bios I just want to check this as there are two versions of the mobo, Rev 1 and Rev 1.3. On my mobo manual it says Rev. 1001 which I assume is Rev 1? I don't want to update the bios with the wrong drivers and cause even more issues!!

    Gigabyte suggests:

Please use VGA BIOS flash utility - ATIFLASH.EXE to check VGA BIOS version. Under DOS prompt, just typing command: ATIFLASH -V, the information you need will be shown on the screen later.
If you are still in doubt, contact the company.

    **EDIT**

Ugh, I'm not sure if that would be the hardware revision or the sw version. Please call or email Gigabyte to be safe.

Both the Bios updates for the board are version F4. I just double checked.

I agree with Lemur double check it yourself if not sure with Gigabyte..

    Just a thought.
Did you use the Nvidia driver from their website or the driver from the video card manufacturer?
You didn't list brand or model of vid card.

Asus for instance seems to like Asus drivers better than Nvidias. They are the Nvidia but have added software for functionality and usage particular to their build.

I'm unsure about the drivers so I'll contact Gigabyte, have contacted them in the past though and they've never contacted me back. I have used the Nvidia drivers from the Nvidia website and I have the Palit (if that's how you spell it!) Geforce GTX 460 card. I'm pretty sure that this is a conflict with my chipset and I'm considering getting this card: HIS ATI Radeon HD 6850 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card []

Has anyone heard of a conflict between Nvidia cards and AMD chipsets? Or is it more likely to be the card faulty and needs to be RMA'd?

Please Download Graphics Driver from NVIDIA Website

Direct from Palit web site. So Nvidia website is the right place for drivers for your card.

I'm not sure about a conflict between Nvidia and AMD.
Your card was working with other set up.

    Just a thought.
What would you think of running and posting another BSOD report on the Crash and Debug page?
You aren't BSODing but it is hanging/crashing or what ever the black screen is and that may find the cause. It may show hardware or driver is the problem.
    Maybe.

I could do, my husband is due for a graphics card update and he wants the 460 card himself. I think I'll get the ATI card and see if I still have problems on my machine, if I don't then problem solved, but if I do then I'll post up another BSOD report.

I've tried the card in a different set up and it worked perfectly fine that's why I'm convinced it's causing conflicts with this set up. However, saying that I know that cards can work perfectly fine one minute and can go at any time so I'm not ruling out that it's a problem with the card itself. I know that I've had AMD chipsets before and have had problems with Nvidia cards in the past, this is why I'm thinking there's a conflict going on. I'll let you know how the card works in my husbands machine and whether getting an ATI card resolves my issue!

Thank you for the advice so far :)

Good idea to try in your hubbys machine.

Have him buy you the 6850 for an early Christmas present.

    Perfect.
