Chosen context menu item stays on desktop after choosing it

Sorry if the title is difficult to understand. The issue is unknown and unheard to me, and I simply did not know how else to describe it.

    Here's what happens:

    - I right click an item or selection to open context menu
    - Context menu opens but it is as if it were only a placeholder, greyed out (enlarge the image to see that greyd out menu)

    - Moving pointer on top of this greyed out context menu shows it normally and lets me to choose a menu item

    - The chosen menu item stays on desktop, on top of everything else

    - "Ghost" menu item disappears only when logging out or changing screen resolution
    - This happens sometimes immediately after booting up, sometimes it doesnt in days even if the rig is on all the time except hibernating periods. If I temporarily fix the issue with resolution change, it happens as soon as I open any context menu next time.

Thanks. Hopefully somebody has an idea. Rig is the laptop described in my sys specs.

    Hey Buddy
Its a mystery to me as much as to you. With new eyes I may have a different approach. Lets rule out conflicts and see what happens. Try with clean boot
How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

Thanks for the idea, Rich. As I mentioned, sometimes this won't happen in days, but I just checked that not a single one of my third party startup items is so important that I couldn't live without it, so I disabled them all and rebooted.

But, it can take some time before I know if this helped.

EDIT: Thanks, Stormy. I had never heard of this kind of issue but you link reveals it's not so uncommon I thought. Trying that fix.

EDIT2: Seems that unchecking both menu fade in and fade out from performance options helps. Killing dwm.exe process didn't.

I cheated a little, someone else had the same problem a month ago,

    I have a problem...

Unfortunately there is nothing in that post/thread that makes it easy to find when searching the forums.

Seven Forums at its best: an issue presented and solved in a few posts and under half an hour :)
