GTX 8800 black screen on boot up

i have just read this post Graphics card causing boot problem to see if i have the same problem basically the problem is the same everything EzioAuditore mentions i have.
for a few weeks now i boot up my computer boots normally but black screen thought the operating system has booted i can't see anything and need to reboot 2 or 3 times before i get onto my computer normally. it was getting worse each week with more and more boot ups . finally no matter how many reboots i just get black screen or no signal sign.
when i boot up in safe mode the monitor works fine, i uninstall the nvidia drivers for the graphics card reboot and happy me i get a picture but then windows does an automatic install of geforce driver and bang no picture again. how can i stop windows from installing the geforce driver i want to stay on the generic driver at least it works.
i had the graphics card on this specs computer
    msi eclipse MOB
    GTX 8800s
    intel i7 920
i had an extra GTX 8800s on my
    Asus MOB
    intel quad core
so i swapped them around so at least my i7 is working but the problem is now on my quad core computer

Heya salpap :) I know the recommended settings are to automatically install updates, however I always chose the option of automatically downloading the updates but choosing when I would like to install them. You can then try to hide the update in windows update. Right click on the driver and select hide this update.

As regards to the black screen, I've had that before when I had windows XP, however I think the fix for this is across all windows platforms. Maybe somebody can confirm this before you try it though as I'm not sure. Here's the link to the fix that worked for me when I needed it: Black Screen woes could affect millions on Windows 7, Vista and XP

    Hope this helps somewhat :)

hi Rhia205 thanks for the reply, i have tried don't update automatically but that doesn't stop windows from automatically installing the best driver from its own cache what i need is to stop it from installing the geforce driver that it obviously has in its cache. The black screen fix i will try out tomorrow but it doesnt sound like that is my problem as i tried ctrl/alt/del and nothing shows on my screen. will try it though and let you know.
