HELP! can't find my ATI Radeon HD 4550 graphics card

I just got my laptop back from the HP repair centre because it kept shutting down whenever it felt like it. They replaced the system board, wireless antennae and updated the bios. Now for some reason i can't find my ATI Radeon HD 4550 graphics card. It won't appear on system information, dxdiag and i can't switch to it. Could any of the repairs they did have affected the card or has someone physically stolen it?!

check device manager for the card... if it's not there, click "scan for hardware changes".

Also, you may want to try downloading new drivers from

AMD Support Search

see if that helps

I'm not sure. Hopefully that's the problem. I'm gonna be really pissed if HP haven't installed it or something and i have to send it away for another 10 days! How do i switch it on?

when you turn the machine on, do you see a message like 'press F12 for setup' or something like that?

sometimes it's the 'Del' key, sometimes it's F1...i don't know right now what it is for your particular machine.

once you are in the bios, you will see several pages - go through them all, until you see something relating to 'onboard graphics' that will allow you to enable your 4550 chip.

i'm sorry i don't know the exact setting as all bioses are different. i could possibly help more if you could tell me the exact model number of your laptop.

it may not even be this problem anyway - just an idea...

sorry, i think what i said was a red herring - i don't think there is such a setting in your bios now that i've checked.

make sure you have the latest graphics drivers installed - (that's a link to the uk site, you may want another - go to hp.com and enter your product details if the link doesn't work for you wherever you are...)

if it still doesn't work, you'll have to get back to hp, i'm afraid.

According to the specs,

HP Pavilion dv3-2310ea Entertainment Notebook PC (VY348EA) specifications - HP Home & Home Office products

that one comes with the Intel i3 that has integrated graphics and is switchable with the ATI card. That said make sure the Intel graphics drive (from HP only) is installed first, then install the ATI driver (again from HP only).

Yeah i'm on the Intel I3 right now so all the drivers must be working for that. I already went on the AMD site to get the driver for the ATI but it didn't do anything. It's not even showing up in the device manager so it must have not been put back into the laptop correctly, if at all...
