Graphics problem upon reinstall and driver update

Reformatted my computer and reinstalled all the updates and drivers that came with it and the quality of the graphics or monitor did not return to how they were. Rounded edges look scratchy and choppy and text is basically stupid trying to read. Before i reformatted i first booted up this comp & i updated the optional nvidia driver through the windows update panel and my monitor quality and graphics immediately improved so i remain puzzled.

I have updated everything in the device manager driver-wise still no improvement.
This pc has Nvidia Geforce 6150SE nforce 430

I have browsed all around the web looking for solutions i have tried to change the resolution, which is currently set to 1280 x 1024 if that helps, tried using the actual monitor settings to change things, tried using the nvidia control panel to mess with stuff and none of that helped. Also tried basic troubleshooting and even tried a second reformat / recovery just incase a bad driver got installed.

Because of these bad image and video graphics i have started using the windows 98 theme ghetto mode to compensate for it. Makes me feel better lol. Any help would be nice. Sorry if i posted this in the wrong category.

If you haven't already go to the system screen, windows key and pause/break key, and run your WEI. I've seen situations where Aero won't work until you run your WEI at least once. If you are using an LCD screen to get the best picture if you want to set the resolution to the recommend "Native" resolution for that monitor. If you can't do that post back and we'll go from there. Might want to fill in your system specs in your profile too.

Aero does work. The transparency works. The snap to screen works all of those functions are functioning normally. Just the actual quality of the graphics are horrible and rough looking, especially around the edges of objects that are normally supposed to be round. My resolution is set to native have already checked via screen resolution as well as nvidia control panel. Used the nvidia driver thread on this forum to find the latest driver but it failed to fix the bad graphics, windows update didn't fix them either, neither did rolling back the driver, and neither did uninstalling and reinstalling, and neither did a full system recovery.

This monitor works fine on other computers.

Not filling in system specs too lazy will just post a speccy. Good program for specs.

    BryanS,

I'm not sure if this will help, but have you tried turning off the PC, re-seating the card, and then rebooting again?

    Regards,

Ahh. I missed that. Perhaps one of the graphics guru's can help here soon.

Right click your desktop and select Personalize. Now click Display in the lower left.
Under "Make it easier to read what's on your screen" is it set to smaller -100% ?

    Hello alphanumeric,

It is indeed set to smaller - 100% (default). A lot of the time i can troubleshoot most problems on my own especially with drivers and graphics...I'm just stumped this time. This is day 3 of this problem haha. My
instinct tells me to reformat it again in the recovery console, but sadly that is not going to fix the problem.
I tried installing the driver through windows update, device manager, advanced properties, and the nvidia site without a fix. The first time i bought this computer i clearly remember as soon as i installed the optional nvidia update in the windows update menu, my monitor refreshed and the graphics became smooth. :/

You've probably done this already but I'm running out of ideas. Since you've been adjusting your monitor controls trying to fix it, you may want to reset it to defaults if it has that function. Have you tried running the clear type font wizard? Or switching Aero themes?

reset the monitor through the controls. I set it to default with no correction in the horrible graphics. Yes i ran cleartype it was automatically on when i reformatted. Tried switching themes as well.
