Getting tired of display driver crashes

So two months ago I decided to get Windows 7 and installed the 64bit version,
first day it worked fine installed Empire Total War, nothing wrong
so i turn my computer off and when i turn it back on the next day the display driver keeps crashing i.e. "Display driver stopped working and has recovered"

I installed, clean installed every display driver that i could download that didn't work,
downloaded updated drivers for my motherboard/chipset formatted my hard drive blah blah that didn't work,

so I decided to forsake 64bit and downgrade to 32bit because I needed to get my work done and 64bit wasn't working,
been using 32bit since November now and nothing has gone wrong.

I'm hoping in January when I finished my work to go back onto 64bit and give it another try,
so if the driver crashes again, how can I solve it?
would getting a new graphics card or hard drive work?
should I swap my graphics card to a ATI brand?

any help would be much appreciated!

Yes BCXtreme the display drivers i used were 64bit,
and the display driver kept crashing every few minutes even when I'm on the desktop
I switched to a basic windows theme instead of using "aero" but it still crashed, I couldn't even go on youtube or anything without the driver crashing

Uninstall the drivers and use driver sweeper to remove the leffover driver files then reinstall the drivers in safe mode

This TDR error is caused by bad driver/RAM/GPU

I would also go with removing all the tit bits of the old drivers with Driver Sweeper and then installing the most stable drivers for your card. If you have multiple RAM sticks try running the PC on a single stick and check if you are still getting the same output.

I've done the Driver sweeper many times and it still crashed,
but i'll try out the ram test after December and get back to you on that,
