    Display doesn't auto-refresh (sometimes)

I have a Win 7 Pro (x64) machine with an NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT and two Samsung monitors, a SyncMaster and an SMBX2440. The NVIDIA driver is v8.17.12.6099 dated 10/16/2010.

Displays are set at native resolution, 1280x1024 for the SyncMaster and 1920x1080 for the SMBX2440. Refresh rates are 75Hz and 60Hz respectively.

Every once in a while the display on either monitor will not refresh. I'll close a program and even though it's actually closed, its' image is left on the screen. Right clicking on the display and clicking refresh clears the problem. Or dragging another application over the area with the ghost image will also clear the problem. It wipes the ghost away.

I can't make this issue happen so it's hard to troubleshoot. I haven't been able to put my finger on any particular set of conditions that causes it to happen.

My PC is working well otherwise. Does anyone have any suggestions what might be causing these image ghosts to be left behind and what I can do to fix it?

    Thanks in advance.

I created the original post here 2 1/2 years ago. The problem is still happening so I thought I'd post an update and bump the subject in the hope someone may come along with a solution.

I'm currently running driver version 9.18.13.1106, dated 1/18/2013, for the 9800 GT. I'm sure numerous other things have changed in my machine but since the not auto-refreshing problem was happening before any of those changes I don't think they're causing the issue.

So...anyone have any thoughts on why my displays sometimes don't auto-refresh?
