No video in safe mode

The screen of my HP laptop with 7 ultimate doesn't work anymore so I've been using an external monitor. I changed to the safe mode boot option in MSConfig, but now I'm not getting any video whatsoever. I checked the 7 website and it says that VGA output is supported in safe mode. Is there any way I can get my VGA out working or, if that doesn't work, change the boot options on my HD by connecting it to another computer?

Welcome to SF.

I'm not sure why you are using safe mode. Why don't you boot up normally, then use FN+F4 for your external monitor?

I was trying to diagnose a problem with my DVD drive. Since I chose safe mode in MSConfig, it only boots to safe mode and because the screen is broken and there's no VGA out I can't change it back to boot normally. Fn+f4 doesn't work either.
