GeForce 9500GT On A Crappy PC.

    Hey guys!
Well I have had enough with lame intergraded chipsets.
I was on Craiglist and I saw ATI Radeon X600 for 25 bucks.
I thought about buying but I asked around, and a buddy of mine advised to get a 9500GT instead. I was so psyched about it because it looks amazing!

But at first I was unsure if the X600 will even work on my PC.
Let's just say that my computer is extremely lame.
    Here's my computer on Newegg, since Newegg has all the specs there;
    Newegg.com - COMPAQ Presario SR5210NX(GN571AA) Celeron 420(1.60GHz) 1GB DDR2 120GB HDD Capacity Intel GMA 950 Windows Vista Home Premium

    And here's what I want,
    Newegg.com - EVGA 01G-P3-N959-TR GeForce 9500 GT 1GB 128-bit DDR2 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

I just want to clarify if will be compatible.
    Please help!

If you're willing to spend that much, may I suggest instead a Radeon HD 5570 (Newegg.com - SAPPHIRE 100293DP Radeon HD 5570 1GB 128-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Low Profile Ready Video Card w/ Eyefinity) or a GeForce GT 220 (Newegg.com - EVGA 01G-P3-1226-LR GeForce GT 220 1GB 128-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card) or GeForce GT 430 (Newegg.com - ECS NGT430C-1GQR-F GeForce GT 430 (Fermi) 1GB 128-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Video Card). They will provide you better performance than the 9500 GT for similar price points. Any of these cards should and provide good performance at that price point. If you can go a bit higher ($75 - $100) a GT 240 or Radeon HD 5670 would provide even better performance.

    Thanks for that awesome reply.
Am sure I will consider about getting a DDR3 over DDR2.

    Well,
Something else I need to have in mind.
And that my low power supply.

You think that will become an issue?

With the HD 5570, GT 220, or GT 430, it should be a non-issue. The GT 240 shouldn't present an issue either; the Radeon HD 5670 provided you don't buy one of the ones that requires the 6-pin power connector (such as Newegg.com - XFX HD-567X-YNF3 Radeon HD 5670 512MB 128-bit DDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card with Eyefinity), you should be fine but it's a bit riskier and I have not had the chance to test it. The sure bets however are the lower end ones I suggested (including the GT 240). I use a GT 220 and have also used the 5570 in a computer with only a 240W Power Supply (an HP dc7100) from 2004 and they both ran just fine.

    Awesome,
    Just awesome,
Thank you so much for your help me.

I will stay from that Radeon 5670.

even if you do up your card you are running a celeron 1.6 ghz that alone is slowing you up

plus 1 gb ddr2 you need a few upgrades atleast 4 gbs of ram and a better processor is a must

i would think the video card is decent but ......still performance will be shotty

also it just depends on what you are trying to run and how well maintained the system is to begin with

just a couple of things to point out to you

    5670- 400 watt minmum i think

    I know mate,
But am not going to be playing Crysis or anything.
Because my nerdy temptations cannot hold me back from playing at least some games.

    Otherwise,
    Your absolutely right Solarstarshines.
    My PC is crappy. lol
I can only upgrade to Intel Celeron E1400 dual core. But that's about it.
    I found it on Newegg here below;
    Newegg.com - Intel Celeron E1400 Allendale 2.0GHz 512KB L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor BX80557E1400

I think that's the only processor I can upgrade to.
    But I am unsure.

I will try to get that processor, but it;s starting to become to get too expensive.
So I might just built a PC myself instead!

Your board uses the LGA775 socket

Only P4, Celeron D,Pentium D, Pentium Dual Core, Core 2 Duo/Quad/Extreme and Xeon CPUs are supported

The best upgrade you can get is a Core 2 Quad Q9xxx CPU

This will set me back a eon

    But,
Am glad that there are more compatible processors than I thought.
    I have a low budget,
And I've been saving up for the graphics card.
So am going to have to save up for a new processors,
Or a new and better computer!

Can't wait until I start to build a AMD rig,
    It will be awesome!

yea for the price of the processor alone you could get a amd phenom quadcore for half the price then you could grab a mobo and 4 gigs of ram with the rest then spend a few more bucks and get the vid card i would say round 400 bucks with taxes included
