Windows 7: ATi Radeon HD 4890 - How long until an upgrade is needed?

18 May 2012   #11

Windows 7 64 bit
This is my opinion:

I own a HD 4890, the graphic can handle almost every game without problem...
I probably encounter a little bug with crysis 1, but all other game work just fine and i must say i have over 250 games on my PC all working just fine at 1080p (MW3, BF3, Starcraft 2, Crysis 2, NFS the run...) This gpu was the best deal i ever get for the money i pay, i choose to buy a allready 1 year used Saphire HD 4890 for half of his performance price ...Actually if you wonna swich to a new GPU i would say from GTX 670 or HD 7950 would be the choice, all others card won´t be much of a improvement if not more than 50% performance, but this new models are insane in performance per watt...HD 6xxx and GTX 5xx probably the second choice, but not really much of an improvement, since with your HD 4890 you can allready play all games without much problem, i would say HD 4890 = 70% performance vs HD 5850, so do your math...I will wait until GTX 7xx arribe probably, no need for upgrade at the moment...

Upgraded from Radeon 4890 to GTX 560Ti and..
I did a clean install(Nvidia drivers that is, not Windows, and no I didn't use DriverSweeper, did it all manually, plus the new Nv driver install has a 'clean install' option, but I think it's only with regard to old 'Nvidia' stuff, not ATI/AMD etc etc), and as far as I know, removed 'all' ATI...
