    Lack of displayport cables

Doesn't it seem strange, that there is a lack of displayport cables & adaptors at retailers? Nevermind why one would bother spending an arm & leg that way, and just shop on-line. But there are shelves of DVI, hdmi, even vga gear. I can even find dvi to hdmi cables, but try and find a displayport to dvi cable and most of these retail clowns don't even know what your talking about.

    Hello Fantail,

Just in case you didn't know since most people do not because it's not made to be real clear by the manufacturers, and to save you some expense from getting the wrong adapters.

If you wanted to use say Eyefinity to have multiple monitors to act as one large display using displayport (DP) connections, you would need to make sure that you have a Active DP to DVI adapter. It will not work with using the Passive DP to DVI adapters that usually come with the graphic card. The passive adapters will only work fine if you wanted to have each monitor act as a separate extended display.

You can usually find these adapters for around $20 or so each online at Newegg or Amazon.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

Last week I went search for a DisplayPort to HDMI adapter. Just found the Mini DisplayPort to HDMI, and most of people stared at me thinking "what the heck is this guy asking?".

I ended up buying a Display Port to DVI, no idea if passive or active, and a DVI to HDMI cable. Just had to plug a LCD TV on a computer for real monitoring purposes - no audio required.

Still, I found such adapter at Dell Europe, for only $70 each.

Brink; thank you I did some research on what adaptor I would need. I don't see much use for eyefinity though. Instead I plan on using my existing 18 off the dvi, the 37" on the hdmi, and looking to add another 18 or 19 rotated for browsing (display port). So it's good to know a passive adaptor will work.
Hquest; 70$ !!! I found decent prices on cables etc. on monoprice.com but I don't know if they ship world wide.
Still think a few retailers should get with the program.

Well I screwed myself out of 25$.
Brink was correct. The passive cable will not work for all 3 monitors at once, I was convinced without eyefinity it would work, I was wrong. I was shooting for 3 cables, 3 monitors, no adaptors.
So now, by the time I'm done I'll have 1/2 what I spent on the card in cables + an active adaptor.

Not to hijack this thread but retailers should have some kind of knowledge about any product they sell.

I'm finding it more dificult to find some employee that actually know's whats going on this weekend i ran into another Dumba** that gave me mis information i had already looked up on the net .

As he kept talking he buried himself further in the why did i even ask this jerk off hole .....even when he was telling me my xbox controller needed the official seal and mine does he went to show me what the seal looks like and behold the same controller i have microsoft certified written all over ,,, why is this guy allowed to sell anything ,both subjects we discussed he failed on all fronts

Like i was saying before they need to go to school or something cause i can't bring my self to shop in a retail store if we have boobs trying to sell us things they don't understand themselves

    That would be nice.

My complaint is that that they should include "Active" DisplayPort adapters instead of "Passive" DisplayPort adapters with a Eyefinity graphics card.

That's what i am saying too

Atleast give us all the periphials and equipment with the card to begin with and we wouldn't be complaining at all .

I know Asus has put a resonable amount of extra's with thiere cards but no mini port adapters yet again why do they design this stuff if we have to go around aimlessly looking for the compatable hardware.

I hope the manufatuares are listening cause that needs to be standard with any equipment such as multi function video cards .
