    new graphics card for (very) old PC


    hi i have been given two old pcs (compaq evo D500) and want to connect one to my HDTV which doesnt have a vga connection so i am going to get a new graphics card and want to know if i am wasting my time or if it will work

    Graphics card im looking at (Nvidia GeForce 6600)

    Hi paul2011, you may be out of luck buying that graphic card ,its an agp 8x the compaq uses an agp 4x ,I'm not sure if they are backwards compatible have a search for a 6200 as they are about the last agp 4x's made :)

    does this have a DVI or HDMI connection???

    just found one not sure if it will work (i know aero wont work) but XP should right?

    They are :)

    x8 AGP cards are backwards compatible with x4 and even x2 - they simply run at the highest speed the mobo is rated for.


    just found one not sure if it will work (i know aero wont work) but XP should right?

    It will for XP. The minimum for XP is 8MB VRAM iirc.
