Windows 7 + ATI HD 5870 = Active DirectX 11... Not for Windows 7 itself!

ZaLith's answer 2 posts down from this one is probably the best answer for that -

Either that, or it's just a reporting error on the WEI's part, as it's always said that there from the beginning of Windows 7 with using a DX11 capable card. Dxdiag.exe shows DX11.

His conclusion is comforting ... :) but Microsoft could well spare us some confusion.
