Silent cards

Am looking at fitting a “silent card” to my new build – i5 2500 and Gigabyte GA-H67A-UD3H-B3 to see if I can get that little extra on top of the onboard stuff.
Scotty Mueller is keen on these silents as they are quite and I am going to fit two 120 fans to the side of the Coolermaster Centurion II anyway (nice case stacks of air flow vents)
What do you graphics fellows reckon re this card? (not savvy re this stuff much myself but the memory looked good)

It really depends on your budget, i assume by the link that you really dont want to spend more then 100. Is this going to be used for gaming at all? if so i would get something like the Gigabyte Radeon 5770 Silent Cell 1GB or, if its just for general use, watching movies etc something like the Gigabyte Radeon HD5450 1GB Silent Cell should be fine. It all depends on what you plan on doing with it, and your budget. Though you cant go past PCCG when buying it.

Yep - that is the biggest question.

As Clinkz mentioned, the 5450 would be perfectly fine for general usage, media and non-gaming tasks.

If for games, the 5770 would be a better choice in the 'silent' range.

However, if better performance is required, there are more expensive, not silent, but still much quieter cards with custom coolers. ie : MSI GeForce GTX 560 Ti Twin Frozr II OC 1GB [N560GTX-TWINFIIOC] - $279.00 : PC Case Gear

You are going to get an i5-2500.

That has graphics built in to the CPU.

I'd go with that for now and reconsider a separate card if the onboard proves inadequate. Separate cards will likely be cheaper in the future anyway.

The WEI gaming graphics score for the i5-2500 is 5.8.

I am using your board and your processor and have no current intention of buying a separate card---plus it's cooler.

Thanks

Yep the graphics are good I just womdered if the silent card would probably give me more colours a bit more adjustment or whatever etc.

I don't know because it's my first build am probably being a overly experimentative / impetuous bit like when you get your first bike really you just want to see what you can do with it.

Am really 64 going 10 lol!!

Oh and I ordered a Gigabyte Radeon HD5450 1GB Silent Cell last night as it was Gigabyte and thinking perhaps it would fit in without conflicting much.

So Ill take it easy in future eh?

You should have no problems with the HD5450. ignatzatsonic was right when he said that you could just run the on board GPU and that would suffice. But like you said its your new rig! There is nothing wrong with trying a few new things out. Let us know how you go with the GPU install.
