BIG GRAPHICS PROBLEM!!!

I've got a HP Pavilion dv3 2310ea Notebook.
I downloaded a game which asked me to update my graphics driver. So i went online to look how to do this and it said i had to uninstall all the old stuff before putting the new stuff in. The help page told me to delete everything ATI related using the catalyst installer or whatever it's called. Anyway i installed the latest HP driver from the website but my graphics card is no longer being recognised by my notebook. It's not in device manager, i can't configure switchable graphics, there's no catalyst control centre etc.
Can anybody help me or have i completely screwed up my laptop?

Which GFX card do you have, and where did you download this updated driver?

With the laptop having the switchable graphics you can only use the drivers from HP for it as the reference AMD driver doesn't support the switching capability. From the release notes for the AMD driver,

Quote:
The following notebooks are not compatible with this release:
  • Any notebook launched after this driver release
  • Switchable Graphics enabled notebooks using Intel® chipsets.
  • Toshiba® notebooks (please contact the notebook OEM for driver support for these notebooks)
  • Sony® VAIO® notebooks (please contact the notebook OEM for driver support for these notebooks)
  • Panasonic® notebooks (please contact the notebook OEM for driver support for these notebooks)
AMD Catalyst

You also need to have both the Intel and AMD driver installed for the switching to work.

It's an ATI Radeon HD 4550. I started by downloading a driver from the ATI website but it wasn't working. I then read that hp notebooks tend to have custom drivers so i went here http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...15817&sw_lang= to download it.

Download both the Intel and AMD driver from HP if you haven't already, and then install the Intel first.

Ok i did that and i've got the switchable graphics and CCC back. There's still a problem though, when i'm running my game it looks like it's using the integrated gfx even though i have high performance gpu selected :S

EDIT: It seems to be ok now, i think i had to enable triple buffer
