Windows 7: DPI problem

DPI problem

I have a laptop that i often connect to a tv screen. When i am just using the laptop screen i keep the dpi value to its normal default setting, but inceease it when i connect it to the tv so things are easier to read. When i disconnect from the tv and go back to the laptop screen everything is too big bevause of the increased dpi, o i set it back to its default settings. However when i do this everything is rediculously small and sometimes impossible to read. Even setting a larger dpi from this point creates text that is too small. I cant go higher from this point because it also makes my windows too big. Does anyone know how i can get back my normal text size with a default setting of 100% dpi?

Heres an image

perhaps this messed up some custom font sizes on certain menus and such, since not all text is affected, only some of it. If so, how would i change these font sizes back?

Several, including Windows 7 x64 Ultimate

You can change fonts and sizes in the "personalisation" window. ( Right click on the desktop), in some themes this is restricted;

Window Color and Appearance - Change

Normally, changing the percentage in the "Screen resolution" window has no effect on fonts themselves, it merely changes the display size.

All these things only work properly if you use the recommended resolution for your monitor.

Thank you for the reply.

Can anybody tell me at least why this is happening or how i can stop it? I would prefer to not have to tweak several settings in different locations every time i want to use my tv as a monitor or vise versa.

Well, it is simply because you can not use the same settings on two completely different monitors.

In order to set things up properly, you need to use two completely different sets of settings, one for each monitor.

Normally, you do this by using the multiple display option and choosing "Extend these displays":

The settings are then correct for each display;

I don't know whether your machine supports this. Most do, but some laptops have problems.

Since you have not filled in your System Specs I don't know what machine you are using, or what it might or might not support, or what the default resolution might be etc.
