Will CLOSE proximity of cards hurt ?

I installed a CLARO Halo XT sound card and a 5770 graphics card and a 3d monitor this evening. I had much trouble with the sound card until I moved it from PCI slot 3 to slot 2. Slot 1 seems to be in between the slots that the 5770 takes up. Anyway by putting it in slot 2, it works BUT
the underneath of it lies very very close to the 5770, and the length of it extends to the fan area also. Guess just wondering about ventilation.

Anyone know if any harm is likely to come running it this way ?

I also acquired some new Energy Take 5 speakers and a old Yamaha Receiver on ebay. I need to run out tomorrow and get some 16 gauge and pick up the 79 " "desk" from Ikea. CAnt wait to test the new setup out !

PCI slots shouldn't matter. If it works in one but not the other there would appear to be a hardware problem with the slot or that the BIOS is not seeing it. Resetting the BIOS may help, If your motherboard has chipset drivers, reinstalling the chipset drivers may also help getting the PCI slot to work.

BTW, I'm using an HT Omega "Striker 7.1" sound card.

It has allot to do with which flavour of card you have. If you have "card a" in the picture below then the hot air is exhausted out of the back of your case, but if you have "card b" then the hot air is circulated inside the case. Saying this you could monitor your temperatures with the Catalyst CC or GPU-Z to make sure that it's not getting to hot, but I think you should be ok

It appears I have a hybrid ! lol. The fan has blades like in pic 2, but the port area of it has vent like picture 1. It is a HIS 5771. Hopefully all will be ok.

I'm off to the land of Swedish meatballs to get the "desk".

Check your temps with and without sound card!

Had the same issue not so long ago and had to swap my card for another due to it being to close and temps on the card going 15c more.

You will then know the answer.
