| Windows 7: Laptop Display on Monitor? |

Laptop Display on Monitor? Just bought my wife a new Asus laptop, and at times she wants to have it hooked up to her monitor. When I plug it into the VGA port it works fine, but when I close the laptop it goes into sleep mode and she can no longer use it.
Is there a way to set it up so that she can have it hooked up to the monitor and have the laptop closed without it going into sleep mode?
Thanks! | My System Specs |

What system does when lid is closed can only be set on Battery power option or plugged in power option.
If you set this option it will be set despite the fact whether external monitor is plugged or not. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 8; Windows 7 x86 (Dec2008-Jan2013) Other Info "The scale icon at the top right of a post or tutorial is how you can give rep to the member." |

Hi Thomamon!
Sure there is. You just have to change your Power Settings. Assuming it has Windows 7 on it (that's why you're here, right?) you just need to do the following:
1. Click Start orb
2. In Search box, type "Change what closing the lid does", hit Enter
3. Change the option to Do nothing under Plugged In (I assume it will be powered)
Hope this helps! | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Myself OS Win7 Ultimate x64, Server 2008 R2 CPU AMD Phenom II X6 1055T Thuban 2.8GHz Motherboard GIGABYTE GA-890FXA-UD5 Memory 8GB G.SKILL Ripjaws Series DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Graphics Card 2x HIS/Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5830 in CrossfireX Sound Card Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Monitor(s) Displays Dell 2407WFP 24", Dell 22" Screen Resolution 1920x1200 Keyboard SteelSeries MercStealth Mouse Razer Lachesis PSU CORSAIR HX Series CMPSU-750HX 750W Case Antec Nine Hundred Cooling Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus CPU cooler Hard Drives Patriot Torqx 128GB SSD

I tried changing the resolution and such, but no such luck. The screen kinda looks soft on the monitor, but looks great if I use the laptop display. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Professional 64 Bit CPU Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Motherboard GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3R LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboar Memory CORSAIR XMS2 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 Graphics Card GIGABYTE GV-R455D3-512I Radeon HD 4550 512MB 64-bit Case Rosewill R512BS Black Ultra High Gloss Finished ATX Mid Towe Hard Drives Western Digital Caviar Black WD6401AALS 640GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive |

Have you tried installing the driver for the monitor on the laptop? That can definitely fix the problem. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Myself OS Win7 Ultimate x64, Server 2008 R2 CPU AMD Phenom II X6 1055T Thuban 2.8GHz Motherboard GIGABYTE GA-890FXA-UD5 Memory 8GB G.SKILL Ripjaws Series DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Graphics Card 2x HIS/Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5830 in CrossfireX Sound Card Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Monitor(s) Displays Dell 2407WFP 24", Dell 22" Screen Resolution 1920x1200 Keyboard SteelSeries MercStealth Mouse Razer Lachesis PSU CORSAIR HX Series CMPSU-750HX 750W Case Antec Nine Hundred Cooling Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus CPU cooler Hard Drives Patriot Torqx 128GB SSD
