    DirectX 10 or DirectX 11?

Hey, I am bit confuse about which version am I running Direct X 10 or Direct X 11.

Here is my Direct X Diagnostic Tool report:

It says that I am running Direct X version 11.

Now when I open Windows Experience Index and click on 'View and print detailed performance and system information' a report is generated and it says Direct X version 10.

So can you tell me which one is correct?

    Yours sincerely,
    Ravi

    Hi Ravi,

They're both correct. Windows 7 comes with DirectX 11; however, your graphics card is DirectX 10.1. For all intents and purposes, despite Windows containing DX11, everything you do game wise is DirectX 10.

Hmm, that's curious! My graphics card (EVGA GTX460 SC) is supposed to be DX11, but the WEI shows that it is using DX10. Why would that be?

Ahh, yes. I never looked at this screen before. Mine shows up as DX10 here too. I would not worry about it. Either WEI, which isn't known for its accuracy, is getting it wrong or the test is done with DX10.

It means that Windows is Capable of using DX11. You will need a Graphics card capable of rendering DX11 however to use it.

Keep in mind though, that if for example, a game is only coded with DX9, thats what your Graphics card will use.

If theres an option of DX9, or Dx10/11, your card will use the best its capable of. In your case, DX10.
