    Exploring Windows: Special Beta Edition

    Dear Beta Participant:

Thanks for being part of the Windows® 7 Beta! We hope you're enjoying it. Please remember:

    1) Install and activate quickly: You need to activate the product within 30 days, or you will experience reduced functionality. If you have misplaced your product key for activation, don't worry. Just return to the site where you downloaded the Beta, restart the download process and re-enter your Windows Live ID. This will re-display the product key you were assigned when you downloaded the product. (And, you can use the same product key to install the Windows 7 Beta on up to three PCs.)

    2)
Try everything! Please try your normal applications and devices - including printers, scanners, cell phones and cameras - with Windows 7 Beta. This will provide our engineering team with valuable information about what is and isn't working in the Beta, and help them to make Windows 7 the best product possible.

Remember to use the "Send Feedback" tool (on the Windows 7 desktop) to let us know what you think.

    3)
Need help? While we are not able to provide phone support for the Windows 7 Beta, we do have a place where you can go for answers. Experts on the Windows 7 Beta Forum can help answer your questions. The forum also provides a vehicle for you to share what you have learned with others.

    4)
Get the latest news: Subscribe to the Windows team blog and the Exploring Windows Newsletter to track the latest developments with Windows and to hear great tips and tricks.

Thanks again for helping us finish Windows 7!

    Sincerely,
    The Windows 7 Beta Team

Sorry kcp100, were you saying something?

kcp, it's called backing up first. Also, by August, there will be another Beta available, so everyone will have to switch.

My games are running fine in the Beta. I am using the Windows supplied driver for my GTX 260. Games are Ghost Recon - Advanced Warfighter 2 (came with card) and CoD World at War.

My current driver - Nvidia GeForce GTX 260 (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM v1.1) 9/20/08 v7.15.11.7816

No video problems so far, running 1680x1050 E8600 Processor. I am not playing online...

I need your help! I have been having random graphical issues. Sometimes in games (ie. COD4) the screen goes black when a new map loads. I then have to exit the game and reboot the PC, hoping it fixes my issue. Also, since I updated to the latest version, there are random graphical glitches in the game (weird objects on the ground and in the air in the game). Now the issue is much worse:
I’m having a similar problem, when I play Call of Duty 4 and a MMORPG... the skins of the map on CoD 4 are in places they shouldn’t be and some maps won’t load correctly at all and as time progresses the issue dose get much worse... I'm going to try the roll back and see if it was indeed the update that screwed everything up... in the beginning everything worked great ^_^;... hopefully this issue is resolved... Also there is another issue that I need to search for on this forum... Lately I've been getting the blue screen where it tells you that all physical memory is being dumped to protect your system... :-\ don’t know what’s going on there... it happens at every once in a while and I cant figure that one out...

Just got an update for the Nvidia driver from Microsoft update, says prerelease - WDDM 1.1 11/20/08. See if you have that and if it is making any difference.

Since folks have different motherboards, it might be related to the chipset drivers also.

I'll look into it, but for the time being I rolled back and everything is working fine again... except for the lag due to graphics, not connection, in the MMORPG game... No blue screen yet and CoD 4 is working perfectly...

Hah! A beta OS is made available to the public to allow them to use it as they would a released version. This allows MS to work out bugs and glitches. They WANT you to run everything you would run on Vista or XP. So, have at it! FWIW: COD4 Modern Warfare, and Ghost Recon work just fine for me on 7000.
