Major Graphical Glitches, Build 7000, GeForce GTX 280

    Hey Guys,

I need your help! I have been having random graphical issues. Sometimes in games (ie. COD4) the screen goes black when a new map loads. I then have to exit the game and reboot the PC, hoping it fixes my issue. Also, since I updated to the latest version, there are random graphical glitches in the game (weird objects on the ground and in the air in the game). Now the issue is much worse:

When I boot up my PC, my taskbar is completely blank, except for the Start Button. I'd be willing to deal with this issue if I knew how to fix it when it pops up. I uploaded a screenshot here: http://www.tsgdump.com/screens/2009-01-11_1744.jpg. Please let me know if you guys need any more info. I'm running the latest drivers from Windows update from Nvidia. My motherboard is the EVGA Nforce 680i.

    Thanks!

I seen other members having this problem in previous threads, although I don't remeber which ones so I would find it if I could. I don't have an answer for you except maybe it's still issues that haven't been worked out yet. Maybe reading this thread you might find a clue somewhere in it or you can do a search at the top menu bar. On your other note, you can use the snipping tool to post quick screenshots and make it jpg.

I uploaded a resized version of the picture (and of only the taskbar this time, since that is the actual problem). Also, sometimes the desktop refreshes itself (the icons show up again) when I boot up. If they do not show up, I can force them to show up and for the taskbar to work correctly by opening Call of Duty 4 (as ironic as that is) and then exiting. Also, now COD4 is almost always unplayable because of graphical glitches (you literally can't see anything, it's just all garbled). I wish I could find out whats causing this.

It's hard to figure out what to search for. I tried graphical glitches and other terms like that, but I can't find anything of use. I'm going to start searching for taskbar issues now. Hopefully that'll turn something up.

I'd try a new fresh install of W7 - something has probably gone crazy....

I'm actually thinking that. Now that I have a legit 64bit key I might reinstall with 64bit (I'm running 32bit now). I'd like to avoid that at the moment though. :\

Don't - you cannot upgrade from x86 to x86-64, so whenever you *do* decide to go to 64bit, you'll need to do a fresh install. Might as well be now so you know you'll have a nice, virgin install with no tweaks and no malware running around....

Yeah, that's what I meant. A fresh install.

Also, an update on the problem. I saw what you said in another thread about using the Vista drivers to get better game performance, so I thought I'd try them out. So far after 2 reboots I am no longer having the taskbar glitch!

Yeah, I meant don't avoid it - go ahead and do it.

As for the taskbar glitch, congrats.

What are you doing trying to play COD4 on an expiramental BETA version of windows??? You cant expect that to work right!!!.... Im sorry, but if you are dual booting your system with a different OS, then go play it on that one. It may be the greatest OS around, until 8/1/2009 when IT STOPS WORKING and you LOSE ALL YOUR DATA!!!
