Connecting VGA to DVI-D into an older TV

    Hi all,

My tv has a DVI-D "hdtv" input, and my Dell latitude d620 has a vga output, so I bought a vga to DVI-D adapter, but either my computer or tv still won't pick up each other's signal, and thus I am still left unable to view my computer on my TV. The TV doesn't have a vga input, nor does it say "computer" anywhere, as the newer tvs do. Any suggestions to try are greatly appreciated.

Norm87, welcome to the Seven Forums.

What you are trying to do is impossible without a VGA-DVI-D converter, an adapter won't do it. Reason is that VGA is analogue and DVI-D is digital only, you need something to convert the signal from analogue to digital.

For what you're trying to do you need something like this,

Newegg.com - DIAMOND HD USB Video Adapter Plus w/ 3 Port USB Hub BVUMD3 USB to DVI Interface

which is essentially a USB video card that will allow you to use the DVI-D connection on your TV.
