NVIDIA Graphics Drivers for Windows 7

"NVIDIA® graphics will take full advantage of the new features and functionality of Windows 7, the next generation operating system from Microsoft. NVIDIA has been working closely with Microsoft to enrich users’ experience with Windows 7 and to ensure that beta users of Windows 7 get full support and an unsurpassed graphics experience on NVIDIA-based graphics cards.
“We expect Windows 7, coupled with NVIDIA’s graphics technologies, to deliver the fundamental performance our mutual customers have come to expect. NVIDIA’s graphics technologies enable applications to take advantage of the visual capabilities in Windows 7 such as manipulating photos, video, and 3D graphics. With the expertise NVIDIA has in visual computing, they have been a key contributor to the development of Windows 7.”

Or you can just use Vista drivers, since driver architechure is largely unchanged.

Yeah, but they give you lower performance WEI scores, and the WDDM 1.1 doesn't drop your GPU clocks when idling....

I prefer the nVidia drivers, too, don't get me wrong - the main thing I saw was that the WDDM drivers don't *seem* to also use the GPU for Physics, hence the poor performance in games - but, the desktop doesn't need physics, hence the higher score - more of the GPU is available for desktop rendering.

I'll take a .4 drop in my desktop WEI to get much better performance in games. But not everyone thinks like that - and there are those that believe that WEI is the end all be all and don't realize just how much of a crock it is....

I'm glad nvidia is supporting mobile GPU's now with drivers (even if beta). First thing I noticed when I used drivers direct from Nvidia is that Aero started working...I couldn't figure out why the minimized app window preview wasn't working. Also if you install the physX software it will not find a compatible GPU unless you install the drivers downloaded Nvidia directly.

The WEI is just a number and does not really mean anything, you can hack it and make it anything you want to. I was having problems with the WDDM drivers so I installed 181.20 and it works great.
