Hi,

There is a known bug in Windows 7 Beta - XDDM drivers freezing, so i guess we should wait for the next beta (or final) version. I have a Compaq n620c (ATI Mobility Radeon 7500, 32 MB), which runs perfectly on Vista and even better on Windows 7, except for the slow 'Standard VGA adapter'. I really, really hope Microsoft will allow XDDM drivers in 7. Read Why I think XDDM on Windows 7 Beta 1 is a key scenario - Ryan's Blog - Extended64 - The 64-Bit Windows Community for an insightful opinion on this.

I have successfully loaded the ATI Mobility Radeon 7500 Driver from the SP27665 (an HP/Compaq driver file). I have a Compaq EVO N800c. The install does not work, however it will extract the files to: C:\swsetup\SP27665\Driver\2KXP_INF. Then under Device Manager choose to Update Driver (under the Generic VGA) , select Brows My Computer; choose Let Me Pick, say Have Disk and browse to the above folder ( C:\swsetup\SP27665\Driver\2KXP_INF). 2 options appeared for me, I chose the first, my system start dinging and flashing a few times (around 10) and then all was normal. I did not say to reboot, but I tested Freecell and it said there was no hardware acceleration still, so then I did a reboot and presto! no more message about Hardware acceleration being disabled and the cards fanned out in there fancy way. I've only done this about 5 minutes ago, so I don't know how things will function long term, although I've also only been running 7 for about an hour... Hope this helps.

Better download them from the official HP/Compaq site:

ATI Video Driver and Control Panel*

rwczen, please tell us if your Windows 7 is stable with this driver, if there aren't any crashes or lockups (the driver being XDDM) and i will test it this weekend as well. Please test if Windows Assessment Tool runs without problems and the resulting Performance Index for the card is more than "1". On Vista, Mobility Radeon 7500 is rated 1.9.

Todor

Windows 7 (Build 7600-16385)

I'm running it on my ol' Latitude C610 (16MB Mobility Radeon M5). It runs nicely and solitaire runs extremely smooth.. Even for a P3.

WEI actually throws a fit and doesn't complete.. So it's still stuck at 1.0, but who cares. IT WORKS!

EDIT: Well, mostly works.. Only 3 of the screensavers work.

Playing Video Locks my System

I haven't had a chance to do too much testing. What I have found is that I cannot play videos, they start to open and then my system locks up (although the hard drive does flash for a little while after the system locks). I do not know if this is related to the driver, or just my system (Compaq Evo N800c). I attempted to run the performance test last night but I was on battery and it would not run. I am going to try now and will post results.
