BTW which driver works best with Mobility Radeon 7500 on Windows XP?

I've decided to run XP until 7 has working XDDM.

i'm gonna stick with the standard vga driver for now - at least everything works and i'm not using any major graphic programs. i tried many drivers and even though i got several of the screensavers to work, i couldn't get windows media player to work properly. hopefully, Windows 7 eventually accepts xddm. if anyone finds a solution, please post it here.

Win 7

I've just successfully installed Win 7 on my IBM T40 (Pentium M @ 1.5ghz, 768mb ram, 32mb ATI 7500) and found this thread to help me with the video driver. After some trial and error I had success with the SP27665 file extracted to a folder, not run as an executable. Next manually updated driver ("Have Disk") which I pointed to the driver/2kxp_inf folder and selected the first entry for the 7500. Installed (with obligatory warning) and rebooted. Voilà! Solitaire fans out the cards and VLC plays video in OpenGL mode. DX mode still crashes, but oh well.

Haven't run the performance test as I'm currently on battery and haven't played with the screen savers yet, but the video was what I was really trying to get to work and now it does.

Thanks to all for the great advice.

UPDATE: Windows Performance Test breaks on decoder section. Not surprising, but there you are.

well well well, just when i thought no one was interested in finding a way to make the ati radeon 7500 work fine on windows 7, i found out that i was completely wrong... Great job everyone, as i read through all the posts, everyone was trying his best and provided feedback... amazingly done, ur ways were seriously clever, however, still the driver or the vga isnt functioning properly as it should be on winows 7... as i honestly gave up trying many ways and many drivers, all of which resulted in a failure... I am sorry guys for not being of anyhelp to u...
I will try to contact IBM and ask them abt whether they will be offering a windows 7 driver, eventhough they didnt for windows vista, but at least there was the ATI 9000 driver working just fine. let us hope either our laptop manufacturers or Microsoft will provide us will a better alternative solution...

Best of luck guys, i will keep u updated...

Yep, we're a small but thriving community

Right now i am trying to locate changelogs for a certain leaked 7 builds (build number > 7000) to see if there is any progress on XDDM support. "Known issues" for #7000 mentioned the problem we're all experiencing, but more like limitation than bug. I hope they see it is a bug.

Anyone with MSDN/Connect (?!) subscription and access to such information?

I'm having the same issue. I can install the 9000 drivers but system hangs playing videos. Hopefully I'll be posted on any news this site has to offer.

Hi all,

I have read this thread and was hoping you could help me or at least point me in the right direction...oh, by the way... this is a desktop not a laptop.

Here's the issue:

I have a ATI Radeon 9000 128 MB AGP video card. I have tried all of the suggestions i have read in this thread but I can't Windows 7 to install any of the drivers I have tried.

I have tried XP drivers..... experimented with Vista drivers found at the ATI website.
Even installed from "my location" and install goes ok until I reboot. I don't suffer a BSOD but when I check Device Manager.... the good ole' Standard VGA is installed instead. Any thoughts? Since I built this pc myself... going to Dell, HP websites are really not helpful lol!

Specs:
AMD Athlon XP 1800+ (1.5 GHZ)
Gigabyte GA-VA7XP Ultra Motherboard (Bios Updated)
1.5 GB RAM
ATI Radeon 9000 128 MB AGP video
40 GB HDD
Sony DVDRW drive
HP CDRW drive
Onboard RealTek Lan adapter (works great w/Windows 7 so far)
4 USB 2.0 ports
1 Firewire port

one way to give a BETA a test is to install it on a older system... really tests its limits. I was glad to see this thread!!!

Thx again!

You could try this driver. It worked for me, but i am using a radeon 9600
it was developed for vista since ati stopped supporting a lot of older cards.
Mobility Modder - DriverHeaven.net

You need to follow the install instructions to exactly. Also, I have found that disabling the uac helps a lot with vista driver installs.

okay guys, as u may all noticed or may notice soon that a new build has been released and leaked... I am currently downloading this new release... Why this is related to the VGA issue is that as i read through many articles, they pointed out that the windows 7 should support the XDDM drivers, just like our ATI Mob. Radeon 7500... so maybe this new beta will support our vga and hopefully fix our problem... i will let u know as soon as i install it...

Hi thedpt,

thanks for the help and the webpage link. I tried but unfortunately it didnt work. I expected the results. Like you said, not much support for older video drivers out there.

Everything else works pretty good.... I was surprised Windows 7 even installed on this older computer.
