hey OzeinaB87,
I think 7 should support XDDM drivers as well. It might help with people who decide to upgrade from XP Pro to Windows 7 . Good luck with your install and hopefully everything works even better :-) keep us posted | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom built OS Windows 7 CPU Athlon 64x2 5600+ dual core Motherboard Biostar A770+ Memory 2GB Graphics Card ATI Radeon 4350 512 MB Sound Card Onboard Realtek HD Keyboard Logitech Wireless Mouse Logitech Wireless Hard Drives Seagate 500 GB SATA |

I have an IBM T42 with ATI Radeon Mobility 7500 and I just installed the 7022 build. I also installed CoreAVC codecs. I tried to play an mkv file with Windows Media Player 12 and it froze after playing a few seconds.
However, playing with Media Player Classic, all was fine. It seems the problem has been fixed to some degree. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number IBM T42 OS Windows Vista and Windows 7 Beta CPU Intel Pentium 3 Centrino Memory 1.5 GB Graphics Card ATI Radeon Mobility 7500 |

" Video drivers
Systems which use XDDM drivers may completely stop responding in certain scenarios. The computer will not respond to CTRL+ALT+DELETE and you will have to cycle the power to restart the computer, with the attendant risk of loss of unsaved data.
Some activities which have been demonstrated to trigger this issue include, but are not limited to: -
Using Winsat.exe or using the Rate and improve your computer’s performance tool.

Changing multi-monitor configurations
- DVD or other video playback
To avoid this, do not use XDDM drivers, but find an appropriate WDDM driver instead. If your video chipset does not have a WDDM driver (such as the Intel 915), use a VGA driver or an GPU that supports WDDM drivers.
If this issue occurs at setup, either avoid unattended setup or uninstall the XDDM driver and use a VGA driver until setup is complete."

okay guys, i think i have some good news. I finally installed the new beta build 7022, and then i installed klite codecs... i then opened a video, it worked fine, however the quality was little rubbish... then i tried to install the ATI XP Driver, it didnt work, but then i tried to run it as XP SP2 compatibility, and tara, it installed perfectly and asked for a restart... after the restart i had to enter the resolution setup to change back the color depth to 32 bit... opened the video again, and problem was solved with the quality... then i run the assessment tool again... worked perfectly (this time to freezing which force u to use the power button to turn off and turn it on again), but it then reported that no assesement can occur due to an error... however, so far so good guys... things will get better and better after some future beta releases...
and if u want the link for the ATI driver i used, let me know...
I hope this helps

OZ I reported this finding 2-3 posts above. And yes, the WEI score fails. In Vista, I get a blue screen but in Windows 7, it simply tells me due to a software, hardware, or driver issue, the assessment of the score cannot complete after I install the drivers. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number IBM T42 OS Windows Vista and Windows 7 Beta CPU Intel Pentium 3 Centrino Memory 1.5 GB Graphics Card ATI Radeon Mobility 7500 |

Try VLC player set to OpenGL mode rather than DirectX and see if that doesn't help...
And for everyone else, beware codec packs... maybe they've gotten better, but I've had problems with them in the past. If a specific file won't play, use gspot (yes, that's the name) to analyze the file and see what codec you're missing. Just get what you need. Does anyone have the sleep mode available when using the standard vga driver? I was trying other drivers today but they freeze up shortly after booting. But the sleep mode was available with the other drivers. | My System Specs | | All times are GMT -5. The time now is 12:20 AM. | |
