    nagging NVIDIA error messages

    error in c:\windows\system32\nvmctray.dll Missing entry:nvtaskbarinit
    error in c:\windows\system32\nvsvc64.dll Missing entry:nvsvcstart

I uninstalled driver, opened in safe mode, downloaded driver (overwrite existing) restarted using newly downloaded driver.

    Win7 Professional 64 bit SP 1
(also dealing with malware, "StartNow" redirects over at BleepingComputer forum)

I don't think the two are related, but FYI.

    clean your malware.
    do a sfc scan
get latest drivers (then can also try beta)

If I understand you correctly, don't worry about this until malware cleared up, right?
then do a sfc scan. I don't know what an sfc scan is.
got latest drivers over and over, with anti-malware scanners off. I haven't seen a beta on nvidia for my card.

For re-installig your drivers, just download the latest for your card.
You'll want to do a "Custom" installation, and check the box, "Perform a Clean Installation"

For now, however, download Malwarebytes and install it.
Malwarebytes : Free anti-malware, anti-virus and spyware removal download (Free Version is fine)

Reboot in safemode (F8 during bootup) and run Malwarebytes. (Make sure you update it too first)

The sfc scan would be a good idea afterward. Once in Windows again, press the start orb and in the search box type: CMD

In the first result, which should be a cmd.exe, right click it and run as Admin.
Then, in the command window that pops up, type:
    sfc /scannow

You want to run this scan as many times as it takes until it says No Problems found.

    Wishmaster,
Thanks for your patient & thorough reply. It may take a few days before I reply, since the virus removal is taking days and days. I started the sfc scan on another computer just to learn about it. Not being close to original disks right now, I stopped it, though it found several files that need replacing.
    Later.

Sorry for the long delay. I followed all the suggestions and still have the 'Error in C:\Windows\system32\nvsvc64.dll Missing entry: nvsvcStart' problem. the sfc scan found no errors.
In the meanwhile my NVIDIA GeForce 5500 died. I replaced it with NVIDIA GeForce 6200. The driver is 'NVIDIA 8.1712.7533'
    Thanks for your help.
