Windows 7: Problem hooking my hdtv up to my computer

Got a new 40" Samsung tv and mounted it over my monitors. I got it to work on an old pc that had a vga port but when i tried to hook it up to my main machine it is telling me there is no signal. Its hooked up to the hdmi port on my graphics card with an hdmi to dvi cable then a dvi to vga coupler and that is hooked up to the vga vable coming out of the tv. Its not even showing on the computer that it is hooked up.

It isn't work for good reason, you are trying to force a digital signal (HDMI) through an analogue connection (DVI-VGA adapter). The wy you have it hooked up will only work if there is something in the chain to convert the signal from digital to analogue.

If you're going to use VGA you need to find out which of the two DVI ports on the video card supports VGA, put the adapter there and use a VGA cable between the two. Or you could just use and HDMI cable if there is a spare HDMI port on the TV.

I swapped the cables and put the hdmi to dvi on my monitor and the dvi on the tv but still no luck. Theres also the display port that i have my other asus hooked up with but i doubt that will work.

I got it working finally! All i had to do was unhook the cable to the tv and plug it back in.

I figure it would be better to ask here instead of starting a new thread on one of the monitors and on the tv there is like this black and white bar that comes on the screen in different spots. Its like static or something its not real big either just a small line that goes across the screen.
