Windows 7: x64 won't detect GeForce card, only VGA

So, I upgraded from 32-bit Vista to Windows 7 RC. All went well, except for my computer now only detects (under Display Adapters) a Standard VGA Adapter. I have a Dell XPS M1530 notebook, and it came with a nVidia GeForce card, I believe it was a GeForce 8600M GT. I right-clicked and told it to check for hardware changes, but it will not detect the graphics card.



Because of this, it is not displaying any of the Aero effects, etc, and my second monitor is not receiving any signal although it is properly connected.

Does anyone know how I would be able to fix this?

Go to NVidia website and download the appropiate drivers.

So will downloading this just fix my problems?: GeForce Release 186

If it was working previously, almost certainly. I say almost because at times Dell will mod their cards to only work with Dell drivers.

Well do you think Dell has put anything out for Seven?

I don't know, not that I've seen but I've long since retired my last Dell laptop.

Try out the driver you linked, I'm guessing it will work.

In terms of the BIOS, I'm a strong advocate of installing latest versions prior to a new operating system. Others believe to "leave well enough alone" but I see that as leaving 1 extra room for error.
