It's hard to understand what you wrote. Maybe using some commas and dots could help.

Through Windows Update no doubt. If you can do a System restore to before the video driver update, that should get things back to normal. If it did come through WU and a system restore fixes it, make sure to not allow WU to automatically install any driver updates or it will happen again. Also means do not install any video driver updates manually if offered either.

Also if that laptop uses switchable graphics; uses the Intel graphics for low power regular use and the AMD graphics for gaming/etc; then you cannot use the regular AMD drivers as they have not been modified to work with the switchable graphics. If it is the switchable graphics then you can only use the drivers from HP (drivers because it takes both the Intel and the AMD drivers to work properly), and not the reference drivers from AMD or Intel.

Without knowing the full model number (HP has recycled the dv6 for a while now, and there is something like 100 variations of it), Device Manager should show both the AMD and Intel. You should also have (when things are working properly) both an AMD and Intel control panel.

This isn't your laptop based on the specs but it is close,

HP Pavilion dv6-3073ca Entertainment Notebook PC (XA667UA) specifications - HP Home & Home Office Products

and it does have the switchable graphics,

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 switchable graphics with 1024MB DDR3, up to 2714MB total graphics memory
So if yours is the same then you need to look it up at HP and get whatever they have for the latest driver for both. Might be able to get away with just downloading what they have for the AMD driver as HP and most of the other laptop manufacturers tend to include/integrate the Intel driver into the AMD install package.

You shouldn't stop Windows Update, but have a look at what it is recommending, and UNcheck hardware drivers. WU is usually behind on them, go to the hardware device's support page for drivers.

What do you mean by switchable graphics?

EDIT: Greg beat me to it.:)
