This is the solution that it is already provided there. This issue irritated me very much, especially because the full, uncontrolled brightness drained my laptop's battery pretty quickly, but I've finally found a simple solution.
I have a HP 4535s laptop with Windows 7 Home 64. This worked for me some 10 minutes ago:
- Right-click on Computer and click on Properties.
- A new window appears. Click Device Manager in the upper left corner
- A Device Manager window appears. Double-click on Monitors in the list. In my case there was just one monitor shown, Generic PnP Monitor.
- Right-click on that monitor and choose Uninstall. Click OK to confirm.
- In the same Device Manager window, click on Action, then Scan for hardware changes.
- After a short while, Windows recognizes the monitor and reinstalls it. The brightness adjustment ability is then restored back to normal.
- Close Device Manager.
