Now we'll have to see if the other problem with the older stuff is resolved. I'll be lookiing the 10.9 plus patch on the test drive there however.

And the Sad News is in for those older titles running into the exact same problem. Once the 10.4 went back on the old titles run normal not seeing any startup errors.

As far as the normal desktop that was seen while the OpenGL issue is what remains.

have you checked out this thread over at Rage3D

I know many people are having trouble with older OpenGL games with any Catalyst release past 10.4 but there are some workarounds posted by people there that may work for you

No I haven't actually. Typically I rarely seem to end up on any gaming sites. But I did want to look over what will or won't work since the latest Cat. versions have been causing problems for numbers of people.

Other then this one continuing issue however the 10.9 went right on and worked without anything else seen for problems. That included antiliasing and the desktop manager with the dual monitor setup here.

One thought on this would be seeing a separate discussion thread in the gaming section for tips on how to see workarounds applied as well as other references for ATI patches since all this falls into that catagory to begin with for those running ATI driven cards.

This messed up my 4830. I went back to the 10.7. I loaded up a flash video it froze and caused a bsod.

Not the hotfix just the 4830 & 4800 series driver (i Tried both)
Ya know, now that I think about it, 10.8 was messed up for me too. I just didn't realize it, I thought I had the border due to being on such a massive screen (55") and didn't even give it a second thought. I mean, even with the border the display was so damn huge it was a non-issue

I can't even be 100% sure that the overscan/underscan slider wasn't there in 10.8 but I know I tried my damnnest to find it and couldn't. I found it in 10.9 on the first try But yeah, so far so good, the display is sharp and crisp as it's ever been and i'm loving life right about now.

    Weird

10.8's are fine with me but I rarely play games.

In CCCentre just click on "Desktops & Displays"
Right click on small monitor icon (bottom left)
    "Configure" >>>
Loads of menus to adjust scanning etc appear!
Overscan in "Scaling Options " - is default set at 12% just slide it to zero!

The newer Catalysts aren't the problem for many. It's the newer driver sets that are sadly lacking on things.

The thread mentioned by Sleestak posted previously regarding OpenGL extensions for example didn't solve the problem when copying the atiglxx.dll file or the older file there into the main folder. "unable to load graphics driver" is what was then seen as one example.

The catalyst on the other hand has been revised with a variety of options for tweaking as well as accomidating those running dual monitor setups.

10.9 mess up and locks my pc when playing any game or a flash video runs, 10.7 on my XFX 4830 is the most stable and gives best performance.

The only problem I was running into with any newer then the 10.4 was for the older titles that simply would not run. Slapping what looked like the OpenGL driver into the game folders saw no results but "unable to load graphics driver" not being one of the game's own files.

That was for the 5750 model card in use here. They've seen a few bad Catalyst versions on other occasions like the 7.9, 7.10s but never this many in a row suggesting something they are changing overall is becoming a problem for many.
