currently using 10.1 + southbridge driver.

When installing hd 5450 do i need to uninstall current driver and install one for hd5450?

Yes. Uninstall the current driver / Catalyst suite before installing the new card.

Yes, remove the Southbridge driver too. I believe it's only necessary for hybrid crossfire, which I doubt the 54xx will support anyway.

If it's necessary, it will be installed again anyway.

Manually create a restore point for extra precaution.

(start "search bar"> type Create > Create a Restore point > create )

On a fresh install of Win 7 X64, using AHCI, for Intel X25-M as OS drive, with ASUS EAH 5870 vid card - having major issues trying to get Catalyst 10.1's installed. As referenced in this lengthy thread - the install never completes (tried many many times on a Gigabyte X58A-UD7 and driver installation never completed). Yesterday got my Classified E760 mobo in, and bench tested and installed Windows 7 X64 again. When I did a full install of 10.1 Cat's - I got an error message again - but the drivers and CCC actually installed. I don't feel that comfortable knowing these drivers aren't working right - is there any workarounds for driver installation that I have missed? Should I install in safe mode, as administrator? I could use any and all help please! I've spent nearly 2 weeks trying to iron out this bad installation package, thanks much in advance.

Problem resolved by removing old drivers - reinstalling Cat 10.1 Hotfix drivers using custom install options. I deleted HDMI, Avivo and the part that was hanging up in their installation package, the AMD Drag and Drop Transactions. After doing this I got a totally clean install with no issues or hangs. Driver shows up as 8.690.3.1000 in Device Manager & GPU-Z.

I just installed 10.1 on my HTPC and it *killed* it.

Basically, I can't play any kind of HD video (or, couldn't - I immediately switched back to Win 7 default drivers).
Trying to play these videos had 2 differing strange result, depending on the player.
Using XMBC, I just got no video.
Using Windows Media Center, my whole computer would crash, the screen filled with artefacts - green and white lines, etc.

    Has anyone else experienced this?

    My system is:

    AMD x240e
    HD3200
    2GB Ram
