Lysle if it helps you, download microsoft "compatability prog" from their website, that's how I found a few un-needed/out of date drivers on my old socket A/Agp board.
It also flagged the .net sp1 that an old game had loaded on!
M/soft compatability prog works running on Win 7 too!

Don't forget to download m/soft June 2010 DirectX 9 redist update drivers!

One thing found here lately was from setting an old Socket A case with a 128mb GeForce FX5200 AGP card and finding the old outdated cd version drivers and software as well went right onto a fast install of the 32bit 7. Even the onboard sound and board drivers worked normally. The MS updates found a few others as well.

As for DX9c I kept the redistributed version from 2006 and see that installed on 7 as well as it had been when originally used for Vista. For older pc games in particular I still use the install DX9 option seen in those since the game installers will then detect that particular installation and run normally.

The compatibility troubleshooter is another option seen in the right click menu as well as the compatibility tab for getting installers for the previous versions to run and install as well as the Windows 7 Compatibility Center for both softwares and hardware updates. For those not adverse to beta drivers,

GPU-74: ATI Catalystâ„¢ 10.7 Preview Driver for OpenGL ES 2.0 Support

ATI Catalyst™ 10.7 Beta Driver Feature:

The release of this software driver from AMD delivers support for the OpenGL ES 2.0 industry standard being developed to bring plug-in free 3D graphics to the Internet through open-source web browsers.
which will be newer than the official Cat 10.7 when they come out some time this week.

Blast! I guess the 10.7 is another No Go! I don't what they changed starting with the Cat. 10.5 but the same problem persists with the 10.6 and this one as well. Something causes a few old apps and a few old titles to crash every time you go to start them up.

When the 10.4 is put back on they all run as good as new.
