    Actually, IMO there's a 4th group:

    - low-end
    - mid-range
    - high-end
    - extreme (i.e. Radeon HD 6990)

Why I say this... I just can't justify putting something as insane as the 6990 with high-end cards like the 6870 in the same group. Massive price, and performance difference there :P

The high-end cards are relatively expensive and are used in hardcore gaming / video hungry machines, they go from 150 to 1,500$ (ASUS Mars II)
IMO, the ASUS Mars II performs way better than the HD6990. It's the fastest Dual-GPU card on the market (and no, i'm not an Nvidia fanboy)

But yeah, we could call that segment "extreme", but for me, it's "high-end"

Thing to note also... Your Card is Mobility, which suggests - Laptop. Note most laptops are not designed for gaming, so you aren't going to get the best out of it. The other problem is the limitation of the card and the physical formfactor itself. Laptops are generally difficult to have a good gaming video card due to space limitations, power and heat venting.

When you look at some of the mid and top level cards, they have a fan to vent the heat, and dedicated memory. While the drivers can improve some performance, it is generally minor improvements, not major.

The fact that it is mobility class alone means it is already going to be pretty limited. I have yet to see any of the mobility graphics perform well enough to game on.

Yea, Inspirions are really not design for gaming. So you will be hard press to 'increase' performance level on them. They can do some decent 3D, but you will only maybe squeeze about 5 to 10 FPS with a driver update.

You can use programs such as Game Booster to turn off unnecessary programs. These are turned on/off automatically by pressing a button.

Make sure your HDD is defragmented, and check your manufacturer for latest drivers.

These little things may help performance and they're free.

    Good luck.

And for the rest of the computing world there is only three, low, mid and high.
