To make things a little easier for those with older video cards that do not have proper Windows 7 support for whatever reason, here is a list of what should work with those cards.
ATI/AMD.
ATI/AMD decalred all cards made prior to the HD 2xxx series legacy status back in late 2009 and as a result there are no proper Windows 7
drivers for them. The list of cards supported in this legacy
driver is,
Quote:
ATI Radeon 9500 Series
ATI Radeon 9550 Series
ATI Radeon 9600 Series
ATI Radeon 9700 Series
ATI Radeon 9800 Series
ATI Radeon X300 Series
ATI Radeon X550 Series
ATI Radeon X600 Series
ATI Radeon X700 Series
ATI Radeon X800 Series
ATI Radeon X850 Series
ATI Radeon X1050 Series
ATI Radeon X1300 Series
ATI Radeon X1550 Series
ATI Radeon X1600 Series
ATI Radeon X1650 Series
ATI Radeon X1800 Series
ATI Radeon X1900 Series
ATI Radeon X1950 Series
ATI Radeon Xpress Series
ATI Radeon X1200 Series
ATI Radeon X1250 Series
ATI Radeon X2100 Series
There is however one last Vista
driver available for the above in bith 32 bit and 64 bit,
32 bit -
ATI Catalyst
64 bit -
ATI Catalyst
For any ATI cards prior to the above list the only
driver available is the last XP driver,
Catalyst Nvidia.
For cards in the Geforce 5 FX series there is no Windows 7 driver but there is a Vista beta driver in both 32 bit and 64 bit,
32 bit -
ForceWare Release 95
64 bit -
ForceWare Release 95
For cards prior to the above (Geforce 4, etc) the only thing available is the last XP driver,
ForceWare Windows XP/2000 32-bit
Intel.
For all Intel graphics prior to the 945G the only driver available is the last XP driver,
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Deta...adType=Drivers
as Intel has stopped all support for the older chipsets/graphics,
Graphics — Older Intel® graphics controllers and Microsoft Windows 7* operating system
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In most cases any of the
drivers linked to above should install normally, but for those that don't you will have to use compatibility mode,
Compatibility Mode
to get them to install. Also some will work with Aero while others won't,
1. The ATI
drivers will for the ones listed, but not any of the prior cards.
2. The Nvidia driver will with the Geforce 5 FX cards, but none of the prior cards.
3. The Intel will not work with Aero at all due to those chipsets/graphics lacking the necessary hardware built into them.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For any laptops using the laptop/mobility versions of any of the desktop cards above you will have to use whatever the respective laptop manufacturer has available as none of the above drivers will install on them and you will have to use whatever they have available, which will likely be a XP driver.
