Radeon 6850 - freezing on startup

Ever since the latest update to AMD Catalyst a week or so ago, when I start up my computer from being completely off, something strange happens. After a few seconds, the AMD Core Line still has not started up, the cursor freezes, and the keyboard are all non responsive. If the cursor had the "working in the background" blue spinner, that freezes and no longer animates.

I have tried reinstalling AMD Core Line and checked its settings. Didn't find anything useful. I say "tried," cuz I was unable to successfully uninstall it, it was left in an unusable state, but then I did successfully reinstall it.

I have tried rolling back the drivers for the Radeon 6850. to no avail.

I don't remember about completely reinstalling them...

The only way around this is that when the computer starts up, I quickly click the AMD Core Line from the taskbar. It starts, with the AMD logo that usually would not show if it were automatically starting itself. Then everything is fine.

So, what can I do to actually fix this???

Previous version of catalyst is still working properly? Did you use driver sweeper or an equivalent before installation?

Rolling back didn't help; I still had the same exact problem.

I didn't use driver sweeper or anything, but I should. I'll go do that & report back.

Thanks for getting back to me. :)

*darth vader blu ray voice* NOOOO! Don't use driver sweeper!! :O I asked because it usually causes problems! I've been out of touch with AMD for over a year now but have you tried installing the driver only ... ie. no CCC etc?

Not really bro im just tired of this card and the problems ,I been looking for a solution nothing personal towards you

Don't take it that way just frustrated about the situation ,just venting frustration

Im.sure if this was going on with your vidcard you would want sound advice not fun poking

Like i was saying before If anyone knows a driver fix or how to fix the TDR so the card would function correctly im all ears

I just don't need to hear this is better then yours type deal if you get what im saying this is not the place for that

Ofcourse I know, my then $450 8800GTS was a pain in the ass too .. turned out to be the power supply which permanently ruined it ATI had implemented ULPS well over a year ago and made me miserable with weird black screens and often failed driver installs ... prefer to avoid them now. Atleast in my personal experience nvidia has been consistent though they've been making a lot of modifications recently which can cause strange side effects which usually get rectified quickly!

Anyway, if you've got a suggestion for OP I'm sure he/she would be glad to hear it!
