Attempting to use TV as second screen

Hey guys!

I have an GeForce GTX 570. It has two DVI ports. I'm attempting to connect my TV to my computer using a component cable (using a component-DVI adapter), however, when I attempt to do this, the TV flashes black/blue.

The TV recognizes a second monitor, as I can see a second screen under "screen resolution". When I was turning off my PC, strangely, I could see the shutdown sequence on the TV (the picture was wavy/flickering though).

Anyone know what my problem is here and know a potential solution? I'm at my wit's end with this shit.

Thanks in advance.

Can you post an example of the type of adapter you're using?

The only thing I can suggest is to change the refresh rate that the PC is outputting to the TV.
Those adapters are pretty much hit or miss.
Good luck!

This adapter is designed with an ATI chipset and works with graphics cards that output TV compatible (sync-on-green) signals. Please check with your graphics card manufacturer to see if this product is compatible with your computer.
you need something like this,

if your TV has an HDMI input, then you can just use a straight DVI to HDMI cable.

Thanks for the responses guys.

Zepher:
My roommate has been using this device called the Psyclone component video selector:
Psyclone Component Video Source Selector PSC01 - video/audio switch - 4 ports - Cell phone and smart phone accessory - CNET Archive

Would this do the trick?

I think that is just a switcher, and won't help you.
