problems with connecting to TV

Hi, I am Erik, new to this forum, hi everyone!

I recently upgraded my Sony Vaio laptop to windows 7 and everything worked fine. Also no problems connecting it to my Samsung HDTV.

Yesterday i noticed windows installed new drivers, and it added new menu items: intel TV wizard, and intel graphics..

I normally pressed windows key and p to connect to TV (when running vista i used function and F7, but this does nto work on windows7).
Now if i press windows key +p the screen goes black, but on TV i can not select PC in source.

I tried the trick of shorting the pin10 key on VGA cable to get the PC source option available on the TV and this got the TV in PC mode. So i tried the windows key and P, but still did not get anything on TV...

I uninstalled the intel drivers (via control panel and uninstall programs), but still no difference..
I have the feeling that these intel drivers messed somehting up.. I did notice that the TV wizard form intel does not have the option to connect to a TV with VGA cable

If anyone has an idea, please let me know!

Right click the desktop and select "Screen resolution". Click the "Detect" button. What "displays" are available from this window? What other options do you have here?

hi,

if i do that i have 2 displays:
1. mobile PC display
2. display device on vga

i cannot change resolutions (grayed out)
TV is in PC mode, still if i extend desktop , duplicate or choose show desktop only on 2, i still have black screen on TV...

You could restore to a restore point when it all worked fine.

Realize though that all things you installed after that point will be gone too.
You'll need to install them again.

Good luck

i tried that, but restoring keeps failing...
i have never used restoring before.

i was reading online about somehting called driver sweeper to completely removed installed drivers, but this does tno yet support intel graphic drivers, is there maybe another tool i can use to complelty uninstall these drivers?

If it's not to big a hassle I would re-install Win7.

And make sure you set automatic updates to only tell you, not download and install.

This way you'll see the culprit update soon enough, so you can set it to not show this update again.

Probably be faster than looking for a solution to this problem.

Good luck

Just one hint of advise.
Before every little thing you change to drivers or settings, make a restorepoint, and give it a name like for example: "before nvidia driver" or "before setting resolution" and keep a log of what you do.

It will take longer that way, but you'll be able to correct mistakes.

To make your own restorepoint, go to start, rightclick on computer, select properties, then select advanced systemsettings, go to tab system protection,
wait a few seconds and click create.

Give the res.point a appropriate name.

Good luck.

hi sorry i did not reply sooner,

I formatted C drive, reinstalled win7 (created restore point), put updates on tell me only..
Now if i put TV in PC mode (for some reason i can still only get it in PC mode via workaround: short pin10 on vga cable with paperclip) I can get laptop on TV (with windows key and P, or via right click)...

Still i find it strange that now my TV no longer recognizes the laptop as PC, so i have to use this workaround, but at least now if i put it in PC mode and switch laptop to TV it works..

But the image quality must be horrible.

VGA on HD screen isn't really optimal.

Doesn't your laptop have DVI. or HDMI?

About the shorting pin10. If there is a pin10 on you screens input, its now bend or broken.

Check out to see if all pins on your screen are all standing straight.
They bend and break quite easily.

image quality is great! (just cannot get it in 1920*1080, so i use 1600*1200)

via s-video quality is really bad...

unfortunately the VAIO i have does nto have HDMI, so i am thinking about getting the new popcorn c-200 mediaplayer as i want fullhd...

shorting the pin10 ,means takign cable out of laptop, grab paperclip and touch casing and pin10 at same time (then PC mode is available)
Pin 9 is missing, all others are okay..

1. Did pin 9 break or is was it never there?

2. Is it possible to open the connector housing?

I checked VGA pinout. Pin 10 is ground.

If the connector can be opened, you could solder it to the main ground wire.

The main ground wire is usually unshielded and thicker than the pin wires.

Good luck
