Ati firepro graphic card driver installation problems

    Hi,

I have been having problems installing any ATI software. I believe I have the correct driver ATI Firepro 8.85.7.1 for Windows 7 64 Bit.

The install processes correctly and report log is a success. The program appears in the Add/Remove programs panel. However, there is no entry in the Start menu.

I have also tried manually installing the ATI driver through Device Manager, Display Adapter, *.inf file but get a message 'this program is for a different version of Windows'. Even though it is the 64 Bit driver.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!. System spec updated.

Anointedone, welcome to the Seven Forums.

If it is the FireGL V7350 listed in your specs then the driver version you listed is not for it. You can read the release notes for it here,

    workstation8.85.7.1.pdf

Problem is that your card is an older DirectX 9 based card and AMD has not (and will not) released a Windows 7 driver for it,

Note: AMD’s DirectX 9 ATI FireGL graphics accelerators are not officially supported under Windows 7. If the user chooses to, they can install the ATI Catalyst Windows Vista graphics driver under Windows 7. Please be aware that none of the new Windows 7 graphics driver (WDDM 1.1) features are supported (as the Windows Vista level graphics driver is limited to WDDM 1.0 level support). Using the ATI Catalyst Windows Vista driver under Windows 7 is not officially supported by AMD, and as such AMD will not provide any form of customer support for users running in this configuration
The best you're going to get is the last Vista driver for it,

    ATI FireGL

    Thanks for the prompt reply!

It looks as though I got confused with the product no. It was 7350 not (3750) as the driver I first used.

I have downloaded the 8.583 Vista 64 bit as you suggested.
The Catalyst Control Centre does install and appear in the Start Menu, however upon selecting it, the program doesn't launch.

I've also tried manually updating the driver within Device Manager, Disp Adapter, and it tells me 'It is not compatible with this version of Windows'.

Is it looking like I will have to create a dual-boot, and have Vista installed on the other partition so I can use these drivers?

    Thanks!

It should work in Windows 7 but you may need to use compatibility mode,

    Compatibility Mode

to get it to install correctly.

I've tried the Compatibility Mode for Vista & XP with no joy. I've also run through the Troubleshoot Compatibility wizard with no success either.

Could it be the graphic card? Although it is identified in Device Manager and is using the default WDM driver?
